Proverbs Challenge, Day 1

Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, they would have none of my counsel and despised my every rebuke.  Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled to the full with their own fancies.  For the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.” [Proverbs 1:29-33, NKJV]

Today begins the “Proverbs Challenge” at Bethlehem East Baptist Church.  With God’s help, we have committed to read one chapter in Proverbs each day during the month of August, prayerfully reflecting on its meaning.  Today, these latter verses of the first chapter speak to my heart that often we get into trouble because we are simply unwilling to make the right choices.  Instead of choosing to fear the Lord, we walk in our own “wisdom”, which really is not wisdom at all.  The result is that we are “full with our own fancies” and wind up eating “the fruit of our own way”.  It would be much better to choose to follow the Lord always.  Doing so would help us find the blessings we so often seek yet seem to rarely find.  May God help me to be more diligent in listening to Him and obeying His instructions!  Happy Monday!
