Proverbs Challenge, Day 20

“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.”

The truth of this wise saying is not as much dealing with the right or wrong of drinking as it is dealing with the reality of the dangers of alcohol abuse.  Some translations say “…whoever is deceived thereby…” instead of “…whoever is led astray…”.  So the point of the proverb is that alcohol use can deceive the unwary and lead them down a path of destruction through abuse of alcohol.  The nature of alcohol dulls the senses.  Being unaware of its dangers can certainly lead to disaster.  Everyone, believer and unbeliever alike, can benefit from the wisdom of this wise saying.
