Proverbs Challenge, Day 21

“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts.”

We are wired to self justify.  What we do seems right to us.  We can rationalize any action, when we have taken that action.  “I did it because…” is our way of explaining and justifying every thing we do.  In our own eyes, we always seem to be right.  This wise saying from Day 21 of our August Proverbs Challenge reminds us that God looks not only at what we did.  He looks at why we did it.  Our justification for an act may seem right while our motive for that act is completely wrong.  I pray that God will give us a new heart; a heart that is in agreement with Him.  Only then can we be motivated by love.  John 3:16 is evidence of the power of love’s motivation.
