The Law In One Word (or statement)

We find in Galatians 5:14 gives us the Law (of God) in “one word” (one phrase or statement). It says simply “For the entire law is fulfilled in one statement: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” I know that we can look to the teaching of Christ about the first and greatest commandment (Love God with your whole being and life) and the second one that is like the first (Love your neighbor as you love yourself). We can recall that Jesus said all the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Yet, the Apostle Paul writes under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in his letter to the Galatians that the Law is summed up or fulfilled in the commandment to love our neighbor the way we love ourselves. That may be due to the fact that we must first have the love of God within us to empower us to love others the way He intends for us to love others.

As the Lord will and if He shall tarry His coming, I plan to preach tomorrow morning from Galatians 5 at Lake Pointe Baptist Church in Walnut Hill, on Highway 50 just outside of Dadeville, Alabama. If you are in the area and can, why not come join us as we take a closer look at what it means to love our neighbor like God commands us to love.
