What Compels You?

Many things can drive or motivate us. What motivates you? What compels you? It’s a question well worth considering for all, especially for those who are followers of Christ. You see, some are driven by a lust for achievement or power or wealth or fame. Some are compelled by a need for more—no matter how much they already have, they still need more. Some are driven by strong feelings or emotions. Revenge can drive a person to become bitter. Hatred can compel human beings to perpetrate unspeakable acts against other human beings. So what drives you?

The Bible speaks about things that drive us, or compel us. One such passage is the 14th and 15th verses of the fifth chapter of Second Corinthians. The English Standard Version reads “14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” Notice the words at the beginning of verse 14: “For the love of Christ controls us”. How would your life change if the love of Christ actually controlled you?

My prayer today is that God will help me to be more and more controlled, compelled by the love of Christ. How about you?
