Travel On

In the English Standard Version of the bible, Deuteronomy 1:6 reads ““The Lord our God said to us in Horeb, ‘You have stayed long enough at this mountain.”

I enjoy mountain top experiences.  Being up above the valleys below provides me with a great view and a feeling of being “above it all”.  The high ground of the mountain gives one the advantage in battles.  Mountain tops in the life of a follower of Christ are those times when all is well and we are “on top” of everything.  The challenge is we are called of God to journey onward.

All of us need those times of just resting in the blessing of God.  We need those mountain top times.  What we may not always remember is that God has plans for us that often involve leaving the mountain and passing through the valleys of life, even through the valley of the shadow of death.  The good news is that God has promised we will not walk alone.  He has committed to be with us even to the very end of the age.  Why wouldn’t we press on when He reminds us that we have “stayed long enough” on our mountain?

Let’s look into God’s Word and see the destination He has for us.  The bible tells us there is a place in His presence where we will enjoy pleasures for evermore and experience fullness of joy.  To get there, we must travel on.  Haven’t we stayed long enough already?
